# Abandoned carts

> See who almost bought, and win them back with a text.

Buyers who filled in the popup but never confirmed — and buyers who abandoned Shopify's own checkout — show up on the **Abandoned carts** page with their phone number and cart. One click sends them a recovery SMS with a link back to their filled cart. Available on every plan.

## What gets captured

  <Card title="Popup abandonment" icon="window-restore">
    A buyer opens the Sendway popup, enters a valid phone with items in the cart, then leaves without ordering.

    Buyers who abandoned Shopify's native checkout are pulled in automatically every hour, marked with a "Shopify checkout" badge.

A cart counts as abandoned after a period of inactivity you control — **10 minutes** (default), 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours, set at **Checkout settings → Mode → Abandoned cart tracking**.

## What you see

* Three stat cards up top: **Outstanding value** (money sitting in abandoned carts), **Recovered** (orders and revenue won back, with the share recovered via SMS), and **SMS sent**.
* The **Outstanding** list: source, customer, products (click for the full cart with subtotal, shipping, COD fee, discount, total), and value. A dot marks carts you've already texted.
* The **Recovered** list: each won-back buyer linked to their order, with value and date.

## Recovering a cart

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Send SMS on a cart">
    The standard SMS composer opens with the **Cart reminder** template ready.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the cart link">
    The message includes a short **cart link** variable — it reopens the buyer's exact cart so they finish in seconds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    Standard SMS pricing applies ([see SMS](/orders/sms)). When the buyer completes the order, the cart moves to Recovered and its revenue is attributed to SMS.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Recovery is **always merchant-initiated** — Sendway never texts your buyers automatically. Send recovery messages only where you have a lawful basis to contact the buyer (your own terms/consent practice); a transactional tone ("your cart is saved, complete it here") works best.
</Note>

## Tips

  <Accordion title="Text within the hour">
    Recovery odds fall fast. A cart abandoned at lunch is best texted before dinner.

  <Accordion title="One message, not a campaign">
    One polite reminder converts; repeated texts burn trust (and money). The list shows which carts you've already texted.

  <Accordion title="Lead with the link, not a discount">
    Most abandoners were interrupted, not unconvinced. Start with the plain reminder; keep discounts for your Exit Nudge.
