Plan: Pro.
An upsell is an extra offer shown after the order is placed. The order already exists, so accepting appends the item to that same order with one tap: no re-entering details, no second checkout, one shipment and one COD amount. Declining leaves the order untouched. Open Settings → Upsells to build your groups.

Groups and steps

A qualifying buyer goes through one group. Its steps play one after another, then the buyer reaches the thank-you page. You can create as many groups as you like, with up to 10 steps in each.
1

Create a group

Give it a name, then set the trigger: any cart, or specific products. You can also require a minimum order total.
2

Choose where it shows

Any combination of three placements, at least one required:
  • Order modal (1 Step Checkout): on the confirmation screen inside the popup
  • Thank-you page: Shopify’s post-checkout page
  • Order status page: the customer-account order view
The order-modal placement only fires in 1 Step Checkout. If your shop runs 2 Step Checkout, use the thank-you and order-status placements, which work in either mode.
3

Add offer steps

Per step: the product and either a pinned variant or “buyer chooses the variant”, a discount (none, percentage, or fixed), and the copy: headline, offer title, description and button text. Out-of-stock products are refused.
4

Activate and test

Switch the group on, place a test order, and walk through the offer as a buyer.

What makes a good upsell

Offer what naturally goes with the purchase: the matching accessory, a refill, a care kit.
Set a visible discount against the normal price. It gives the buyer a reason to accept on the spot.
Impulse add-ons work best well under the value of the main purchase.
Ten steps are allowed; one or two convert. After two declines, let the buyer get to their confirmation.
Upsells act on an order that already exists. That is why the in-popup placement needs 1 Step Checkout: in 2 Step Checkout there is no order yet when the popup closes.
